Safety Pledge
I'm Ready to Pledge!
Safe Driving Matters
Do Your Part
-
Is the world full of perfect people?
-
Do we all operate fully developed AI vehicles that can transport us safely from point A to B without any fault?
-
Does this leave us all vulnerable to the mistakes of others or circumstances changing unexpectedly on the road?
-
Can we do something about it?
~ Gandhi
Communities that prioritize safety over comfort and convenience create a healthier and happier environment for everyone. This starts with pledging to protect yourself and your loved ones by being safe drivers and passengers. Will you take the challenge?
What is Involved?
The challenge is simple: Read the pledge below and click the “I Pledge to Be Safe” button. Commit to vehicle safety and then challenge your friends, family and those in your community to do the same.
Who should participate? Everyone! Businesses, organizations, schools, municipalities, and individuals all have a stake in vehicle safety. We all play a role in keeping each other safe.
Seat Belt Safety Pledge
I understand the importance of wearing a seat belt. When worn properly, it is the best way to keep me and others in the vehicle safe in the event of a crash. Because of this:
-
I commit to wearing my seatbelt properly with my shoulder strap across the center of my chest and over my shoulder and the lap belt snugly across my hips.
-
I commit to ALWAYS wearing my seat belt no matter where I am sitting, how far I am travelling, how fast we are going, or how close to home I am. My well-being is more important than any excuse for not wearing my seat belt.
-
I commit to making sure everyone else in the vehicle is also buckled up, every single trip, EVERY TIME, THE WHOLE TIME, even if the laws state that they are of an age where they are responsible for their own safety.
-
If I notice someone not wearing a seat belt, I commit to speaking up. Every life matters. Everyone needs to get home safely. My voice can make a difference.
-
As a driver, I commit to only carrying as many passengers as there are seat belts. I will not move the vehicle until everyone is safely secured.
-
As a parent or driver, I commit to being a role model and making safe driver/passenger choices.
-
As a parent or driver, I commit to always using the proper child restraint systems.
-
As a parent or driver, I commit to setting clear expectations about seat belt use and helping my teenager(s) problem-solve to address situations where they might experience resistance.
-
As an employer, I commit to ensuring that seat belt safety is a part of our organizational culture and orientation process.
-
As a member of the community, I commit to helping to save lives by spreading seat belt awareness. I will encourage others to #BuckleUp4Shea.
Additional Safety Measures:
-
I understand that driving comes with great responsibility. Tomorrow is not promised, but it is impacted by the choices I make today. I commit to making safe driving choices and avoiding unnecessary risks, such as wearing a seat belt, and not driving impaired or driving distracted.

*Feel free to download and print a copy of the pledge to review with others in your life.
**Statements about distracted driving have been added to this safety pledge, as my son was in a crash just three days before Shea-Lynn's crash, due to distracted driving. Fatalities are on the rise. In some provinces, the death rate at the hands of distracted drivers has surpassed the fatality rate of impaired driving. We need to make a change.
Challenge Your Friends & Family
While awareness and education start with your own commitment to road safety, if you know someone who drives unbuckled, please help them understand the facts:
3 out of every four ejected from their vehicle die from their injuries ¹.
Wearing a seat belt keeps the driver in the driver seat, helping the driver maintain control of the vehicle.
Unbuckled passengers increase the risk of killing or injuring other belted passengers by 40% ².
Every Trip. Every Time. #BuckleUp4Shea
