Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect is a small office with big plans and we can use your help. Please consider putting your name in as a volunteer. Volunteers are the heart and soul of Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect. Without your support, we would not be able to host as many awareness events and reach as many families with our important message. You only have to give as much time as you are able to.

Currently, SBE is completely volunteer-run, but as we acquire funding and donations, we hope to make some of these roles paid positions.

Volunteer Coordinator

Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect (SBE) is growing, and we need a dedicated, people-focused Volunteer Coordinator to help us organize, support, and inspire our team of change-makers. If you believe in the power of small actions creating lifesaving impact, this role is for you!

What You’ll Do:

Assist the ED with recruiting, onboarding, and supporting volunteers in various roles.
Ensure volunteers have clear expectations, training, and resources to succeed.
Schedule, coordinate, and oversee volunteer participation in events and campaigns.
Keep volunteers engaged through communication, appreciation, and leadership.
Track volunteer impact and ensure smooth operations behind the scenes.

Commitment:

This role requires an estimated 2+ hours per week, though time may vary depending on event schedules and seasonal needs. Some weeks may require little to no time, while others may involve additional coordination during peak activity periods (such preparing for our Buckle Up Benefit in October).
We appreciate all contributions and will work with volunteers to ensure a manageable commitment.
If you have a friend you want to share the responsibilities with, that would be another great way to manage the time commitment.

Sponsorship Volunteers

We’re looking for sponsorship volunteers to help secure support for our awareness programs, fundraising events, and youth incentive programs. Whether you are already well connected to local or national businesses that may be interested in partnering with a great cause or are not afraid to go knocking on the doors of potential partners of the organization – this is the job for you!

Fundraising Committee Member

Otherwise known as a Revenue Development Committee Member, this role will assist with fundraising efforts intended to increase brand awareness and ultimately grow our community of donors. We will look to the committee member to:

create and plan fundraising opportunities and events (online and in-person)
help build a fundraising committee to implement ideas
collaborate with the board of directors and other volunteers on #GivingTuesday and year-end fundraising events
work with the sponsorship volunteers to prospect and solicit corporate donors and business partners
assist with the development of an annual fundraising plan
contribute creative ideas for new fundraising opportunities

This position can primarily be done remotely and on your own time and requires a commitment of an average of 2-4 hours per week.

Requirements:

Nonprofit fundraising and/or event planning experience
Be outgoing, enthusiastic and a creative thinker
Be able to build strong relationships with new people, businesses, and organizations
Be able to use online tools to engage members, donors, and corporate partners

Currently, Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect does bottle drives, silent auctions, and a larger benefit fundraiser. We are looking to expand and create new opportunities.

Event Volunteer

Do you love connecting with people, being part of engaging events, and making a real impact? As an event volunteer with Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect, you’ll help bring our seat belt safety programs to life—through schools, businesses, and community initiatives. Your time and energy can save lives.

What You’ll Do:

Assist with setup and takedown at events.
Engage with the public, sparking conversations about seat belt safety.
Help run activities, share information, and support event logistics.
Be part of a fun, high-impact initiative that makes roads safer for everyone.

Flexible Scheduling:

Our events happen throughout the week, including daytime, evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
Since our schedule shifts based on need, we maintain a running list of volunteers and reach out when opportunities arise.

Event Photographer

Are you happiest behind the lens of a camera? Then we are looking for someone like you. Every snapshot tells a story, and we need a talented volunteer photographer to help us document our seat belt safety movement in action. From school programs and community events to advocacy campaigns, your images will help inspire, educate, and create change.

What You’ll Do:

Photograph events, presentations, and awareness campaigns.
Capture authentic moments that reflect our mission.
Help create a library of compelling images for social media and marketing.
Edit and organize photos for use in promotions and reports.

What We’re Looking For:

Passionate about visual storytelling and advocacy.
Experience with event or documentary-style photography (professional or hobbyist welcome!).
Preferably someone with a proper camera, but a great smartphone works too.
Able to work with natural lighting and dynamic event environments.
Comfortable sharing high-quality, brand-aligned photos for public outreach.
Reliable
Ideal for high school or university students looking to expand their portfolio and gain experience.

Time Commitment:

You would be added to a list of photographers and then asked for each specific event - then you sign up for the specific events that work for your life.

Seat Belt Check Volunteers

Throughout the year, we conduct seat belt safety checks at the exits of high schools. This is done to ensure drivers and passengers are wearing seat belts and that they are made aware of the potential consequences if they don’t. This is done in partnership with law enforcement. As a volunteer, you will help hand out safety material and provide an explanation about the importance of wearing a seat belt when unbuckled occupants are identified - requesting that they buckle up before they drive away.

Marketing Coordinator

Increasing awareness through the development and implementation of our programs and resources is integral to the work we do. The objective of this role is to support the production of infographics, poster design, posting on social media, and program materials.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would be someone with experience in marketing, content creation, proofreading, graphic design, and working with a team of people.

This position can be done remotely and on your own time and requires a commitment of an average of 2-4 hours per week.

Social Media Volunteers

Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for making a difference? Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect is looking for a volunteer social media content creator to help amplify our mission and engage our community!

What You'll Do:

Develop and execute a social media strategy for seat belt safety awareness.
Research and create both fact-based and emotionally, engaging content.
Design visuals, write captions, and schedule posts.
Track performance and analytics to optimize engagement.

Commitment:

Flexible—approximately 8-16 hours per month, with the ability to batch content creation in one go while ensuring weekly posts are scheduled.

Who We're Looking For:

Experience in social media management & content creation.
Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok.
Strong writing and design skills (Canva experience is a plus!).
Passion for community impact and digital storytelling.

Bookeeper

SBE needs some help with bookkeeping. This role will play an integral role in ensuring we have a financially healthy start with healthy books; greatly impacting our application to the CRA to become a registered charity. Responsibilities will include:

recording financial transactions
overseeing SBE's ledger
assisting the Treasurer with creating financial reports

Requirements:

be thorough and detail oriented
completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field
experience working in the non-profit industry preferred, but not required

Time commitment is unknown, but we would estimate anywhere between 2-4 hours monthly until SBE becomes more established. Volunteer hours could count towards your Continued Professional Development (CPD).

Volunteer Administrative Assistant

Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back while using your organizational skills? We’re seeking a dedicated Volunteer Administrative Assistant to support our nonprofit with essential administrative tasks.

This role is ideal for someone who is retired and looking to stay active, enjoys organization and computer work, or simply wants to make a difference. Work will vary, with a combination of tasks that can be done remotely from the comfort of your home and onsite work at our office.

Examples of What You'll Do:

Assist with data entry and maintaining spreadsheets
Research statistics and information related to our mission
Track social media analytics and organize digital files
Enter post-presentation survey data
Support various administrative projects as needed
Source supplies/information as needed

Who You Are:

Detail-oriented and organized
Able to work independently and meet deadlines
Passionate about nonprofit work and community impact
Experience using various computer programs such as Microsoft Office suites, Google Drive, Zoom, is an asset but not required (must be a quick learner if not familiar)
Comfortable with online research and organizing information

Additional Information:

We offer a flexible schedule
Ideally, we need more than two hours/week, but even two hours would make a big impact!
Access to transportation is required for in-office tasks

Award Selection Committee Member

Are you passionate about recognizing young leaders who make a real difference in road safety? Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect is seeking dedicated volunteers to serve on the Selection Committee for our Get Home Safe Student Ambassador Program Awards. Grade nine recipients receive free driving lessons.

What You’ll Do:

Review applications from inspiring students advocating for seat belt safety.
Assess impact, leadership, and innovation to determine award recipients.
Work alongside like-minded committee members to uphold fairness and transparency.
Help celebrate and empower youth leaders who are making a difference.

Who We’re Looking For:

Professionals, educators, recent graduates, or advocates passionate about youth empowerment and road safety.
Detail-oriented individuals who can thoughtfully evaluate submissions.
Team players committed to fair and objective selection.
Able to dedicate time for application review and discussion meetings.

Time Commitment:

This is a yearly volunteer role, with selection occurring once per year.
For this cycle, the first selection must be completed by June 10, 2025 with review meetings scheduled accordingly.
