Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect is a small office with big plans and we can use your help. Please consider putting your name in as a volunteer. Volunteers are the heart and soul of Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect. Without your support, we would not be able to host as many awareness events and reach as many families with our important message. You only have to give as much time as you are able to.

Available Opportunities

Currently, SBE is completely volunteer-run, but as we acquire funding and donations, we hope to make some of these roles paid positions.

Volunteer Coordinator

We are looking for someone who is willing to be responsible for all things volunteer based. They would:

accept and review volunteer applications
host volunteer orientations
schedule volunteers for events and activities.

Requirements: The ideal candidate is someone who is detail-oriented, passionate about people, and will uphold the values of SBE, ensuring the comfort of our volunteers in their positions.

Time commitment is unknown at this time, as we are just starting-up, with the collection of volunteer names just about to begin and no known events planned at this point.

Sponsorship Volunteers

We’re looking for sponsorship volunteers to help secure support for our awareness programs, fundraising events, and youth incentive programs. Whether you are already well connected to local or national businesses that may be interested in partnering with a great cause or are not afraid to go knocking on the doors of potential partners of the organization – this is the job for you!

Fundraising Coordinator

This role will assist with fundraising efforts intended to increase brand awareness and ultimately grow our community of donors. We will look to the coordinator to:

create and plan fundraising opportunities and events (online and in-person)
help build a fundraising committee to implement ideas
collaborate with the board of directors and other volunteers on #GivingTuesday and year-end fundraising events
work with the sponsorship volunteers to prospect and solicit corporate donors and business partners
assist with the development of an annual fundraising plan
contribute creative ideas for new fundraising opportunities

This position can be done remotely and on your own time and requires a commitment of an average of 2-4 hours per week.

Requirements:

Nonprofit fundraising and/or event planning experience
Be outgoing, enthusiastic and a creative thinker
Be able to build strong relationships with new people, businesses, and organizations
Be able to use online tools to engage members, donors, and corporate partners

Currently, Shea-Lynn’s Butterfly Effect does bottle drives, silent auctions, bake sales, and thrift sales. We are looking to expand and create new opportunities.

Event Volunteer

Be a part of a fun event with an important purpose. As an event volunteer, you can assist in one of many ways. You can decide to assist with the planning of an event or just make yourself available to help on the day in need. These events may be focused on fundraising (i.e., bottle drive volunteer) or on the delivery of educating the public about seat belt safety (i.e., helping at a school presentation).

Event Photographer

A talented pool of volunteer photographers is integral to helping capture the important moments at the various community engagement events throughout the year. This volunteer position is perfect for collecting volunteer experience and honing your event photography and videography skills. The ideal candidates would have experience as a photographer in a professional capacity, enjoys working with the public, has access to equipment capable of producing high-resolution images, and has a great eye for capturing good-quality photos. Time commitment: 30 min to 2 hours per event, based on the type of event.

Seat Belt Check Volunteers

Throughout the year, we conduct seat belt safety checks at the exits of high schools. This is done to ensure drivers and passengers are wearing seat belts and that they are made aware of the potential consequences if they don’t. This is done in partnership with law enforcement. As a volunteer, you will help hand out safety material and provide an explanation about the importance of wearing a seat belt when unbuckled occupants are identified - requesting that they buckle up before they drive away.

Marketing Coordinator

Increasing awareness through the development and implementation of our programs and resources is integral to the work we do. The objective of this role is to support the production of infographics, poster design, posting on social media, and program materials.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would be someone with experience in marketing, content creation, proofreading, graphic design, and working with a team of people.

This position can be done remotely and on your own time and requires a commitment of an average of 2-4 hours per week.

Social Media Volunteers

SBE is looking for a volunteer to conduct research and create valuable, fact-based content specific to seat belt safety. Responsibilities will include creating a social media strategy, researching topics, creating visuals, caption writing, post scheduling, performance tracking, and engagement with our followers. The candidate should have experience with social media management, original content creation, and social media platforms. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 1-2 hours per week.

Bookeeper

SBE needs some help with bookkeeping. This role will play an integral role in ensuring we have a financially healthy start with healthy books; greatly impacting our application to the CRA to become a registered charity. Responsibilities will include:

recording financial transactions
overseeing SBE's ledger
assisting the Treasurer with creating financial reports

Requirements:

be thorough and detail oriented
completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field
experience working in the non-profit industry preferred, but not required

Time commitment is unknown, but we would estimate anywhere between 2-4 hours monthly until SBE becomes more established. Volunteer hours could count towards your Continued Professional Development (CPD).
